These last few days, Israeli raids have led to the Palestinian territory of the

Jordanian Peninsula, and Israeli colonists have multiplied attacks on Palestinians.

More than a few years, Israel has accelerated the colonization of the Jordanian territory.

A colonization and a situation in the Jordanian Peninsula, which we hear less

than Gaza, but where the situation remains critical.

So that's what we're going to see today.

Hello, it's Hugo.

I hope you're doing well.

It's the subject of one of the news today.

So since the Hamas attacks, there have been almost three weeks.

More than 1,400 people have been killed on the Israeli side, including many civilians.

And more than 7,000 people have been killed on the Palestinian side, according to Hamas,

with a lot of civilians there too.

So obviously, we're talking a lot about the catastrophic situation in Gaza at the moment,

in the Jordanian Peninsula.

The situation is also very tense.

Since October 7, more than 100 Palestinians have been killed in the Jordanian Peninsula

by colonists or by the Israeli army, according to Palestinian authorities.

And in front of that, the American president, Joe Biden, has stated this Wednesday that

I quote the extremist colonists who attack Palestinians in the Jordanian Peninsula.

They must be, I quote, held responsible and that it must cease now.

So what exactly are we talking about here?

So we're not going to redo the whole story today, because it would take some time.

I'll send you back to our video of 15-20 minutes, which details the story about it.

You type Hugo Descriptes, Israel, Palestine on YouTube.

I think you'll find it, I also put the link in the description.

But if we think about, for example, the period in 1949, at the end of the Arab-Israeli War of 1949,

well, two territories are not controlled by the new state of Israel.

In the West, it's the Gaza Strip, which was under the control of Egypt.

And in the East, it's the Jordanian Peninsula, which was under the control of Jordan.

A little later in the story, in 1967, at the end of the six-day war,

Israel will return to Egypt, Jordan and Syria.

Well, Israel takes control of the Jordanian Peninsula and Gaza.

Without going into the details, what you have to understand is that from 1967 to 2005,

Israel controls the territory of Gaza.

And in 2005, following the Second Intifada, well, Israel removes these troops from the Gaza Strip.

One year before Hamas' victory to the Palestinian elections,

and therefore the arrival of Hamas to the Gaza Strip.

In short, during this period, Gaza is controlled by Israel,

then the Palestinian authorities take over the control.

But the situation is different in six days.

In fact, from 1967, Israel begins to extend its occupation of the Jordanian Peninsula,

by planting directly colonies.

To tell you the truth, very concretely, Israelis settle in cities or villages

built in Palestinian territory,

outside of the official border of Israel, which was established in 1967.

This colonization, and this progressive arrival of Israelis,

which is settled illegally in six years of the year,

led to Palestinian rising, and finally in 1994,

the Palestinian Authority, the main political party called FATA,

arrives in power in six years of the year.

What you have to understand is that today, Marmoud Abbas,

the leader of FATA and the president of this Palestinian territory,

about 6,000 km away,

a territory where 2.8 million Palestinians live.

But the thing is that in fact, this Palestinian Authority,

it holds a fairly limited power over the six years of the year.

Indeed, this Jordanian Peninsula is therefore partly occupied by the Israeli army

and by Israeli settlers.

So we estimate today that about 475,000 Israelis,

so about 5% of the Israeli population,

live directly in the Jordanian Peninsula.

However, this progressive colonization of the Jordanian Peninsula

is illegal according to international law,

and it has accelerated over the years,

and particularly since the arrival of the extreme right,

in the new government of the Israeli Prime Minister,

Benjamin Netanyahu, at the end of 2022.

Indeed, in this government, we find, in particular,

Itamar Benkvir, sorry for the pronunciation,

he is the Minister of Interior Security,

as well as Bezalels Motrich,

the Minister of Finance and Responsibility

of the Civil Administration of the colonies of the Jordanian Peninsula.

Concretely, they are defined today by the specialists of the region

as Jewish supremacists favorable to the annexation of the Jordanian Peninsula.

Results since their arrival within the government,

the Israeli government invests to develop some colonies,

and in February, for the first time since 2012,

and in reprisal, several attacks came to Jerusalem East,

and the Prime Minister Netanyahu legalized nine colonies in six hours a night,

which was so far considered illegal by the government.

In this case, the Israeli government estimates that these colonies are legal,

and so, while I was saying it, it is strictly illegal

in the eyes of the international law,

according to the UN and all the UNG that thought about the subject.

So, at the beginning of 2023, following this decision to intensify the colonization of the Jordanian Peninsula,

a recluse of violence between Israeli colonists and Palestinians has been observed,

which led to deaths on both sides,

and it is also for this that the Israeli army has been, for several months,

more concentrated on the Jordanian Peninsula than on Gaza.

And, by the way, today, many Israelis are reproaching the Israeli government

and the Israeli army to have concentrated so many troops around the Jordanian Peninsula,

including for this colonization.

While, well, already, some Israelis are opposed to this colonization,

and then, on the other hand, there was this situation always tense with Hamas.

So, quickly, what is the current situation in the Jordanian Peninsula?

Well, tensions are rising these last days between Palestinians and Israeli colonists.

On the one hand, we have Israeli civilians who fear a similar attack to what Hamas did at the beginning of October,

but there are also colonists who take advantage of the current disorder

to attack Palestinians and to hunt them in certain areas of the Jordanian Peninsula.

Since this October, more than 500 Palestinians have been hunted in this territory,

according to the UN organization.

By the way, it is necessary to note that the Israeli army led to bombings,

like this Sunday, when she said she had killed, I quote,

terrorists who were sheltered in the underground of a mosque in Jenin in Jordan.

On the Palestinian side, there are several demonstrations that have been organized these last days

to denounce, first, the situation in Gaza,

to then denounce the Israeli occupation,

but in some cities, such as Ramallah or Naplouz,

demonstrations are also generated in confrontation with the Israeli forces that are present on site.

And we have also heard, in some cases, of Palestinians protesting against Marmoud Abbas,

therefore against the president of the Palestinian Authority.

Indeed, we may have the opportunity to talk about it,

but the Palestinian president is also rejected by a part of the Palestinians

who are accused, in particular, of cooperating with Israel in terms of security.

It is a joint that we said yesterday about the fact that the Palestinian Authority and Hamas

are two organizations that are considered as enemy brothers,

in the sense that they do not have the same way of dealing with the current situation.

So the situation currently tends to be in Jordan.

By the way, the French president Emmanuel Macron, who was in Jordan this Tuesday,

said that the repression of a real peace treaty between Israel and Palestine

would go through the arrest of colonization in Jordan.

We will therefore see how it evolves, I will leave you in the description to know more about it.

And on the way, before we move on to the news, in short, with Lea today,

some information quickly about the situation in Israel and Gaza.

First, first information, the Gaza strip is in danger because of a fuel shortage.

This indicates the agency of the United Nations for Palestinian Refugees.

In particular, the fuel is necessary for several things,

for the trucks of humanitarian convoy that arrive to bring, in particular, medicines.

They are also essential for the stations of desalination of water,

which therefore allows access as much as possible to potable water.

And finally, it is also necessary for the generators that produce electricity,

especially for hospitals.

Obviously, there, the game is extremely crucial.

It is therefore a demand for the UN, but on its side, Israel refuses, for the moment,

to enter the fuel on the territory, affirming that it would benefit Hamas.

This is obviously a very important point.

We will see how this evolves, while I was saying that we exceeded 7,000 deaths in the Gaza strip,

according to the figures of Hamas, including very, very many civilians.

Second information quickly about the Gaza strip.

The Israeli army announced to have led in the night from Wednesday to Thursday

operations targeted with tanks in the north of Gaza,

while the Israeli bombardments continue.

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the preparation of an offensive,

therefore of a terrestrial invasion against Hamas in the Gaza strip.

We will therefore see what it is.

On its side, the French President Menin Macron estimated that a massive operation of Israel

in Gaza would be a mistake.

Third information on this, after having broadcast this Monday to journalists,

atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7 on Israeli civilians.

Well, the Israeli army broadcast this time interrogations of Hamas members stopped by Israel.

These videos are available on social networks.

We therefore see Hamas fighters threatened in offices,

telling how they received the order to kill Israeli men and women,

and capture women and children.

These videos have circulated a lot, but some organizations estimate that the spread of these images

with Hamas fighters did not flow and contrary to the rights of prisoners.

You have to know that the rights of prisoners are governed by conventions,

the conventions of the right to war.

In any case, for the current situation, I leave you with Léa for the news in short,

and I'll come back right after.

Thank you Hugo and hello everyone.

We start with this act.

A double shooting took place on Wednesday night on Thursday in the United States,

in the state of Maine, in the north-east of the country,

making at least 16 deaths and a dozen injured.

The shooter, a 40-year-old man, was equipped with a gun to fire

and he shot in a bowling and bar restaurant before taking the run.

He is always looked after by the police.

So according to the first information, the suspect is called Robert Carde.

He is an instructor certified in gunfire and a reservist of the American army.

On his side, the police called the population not to approach him and to barricade themselves.

Second act, it concerns the situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The first Armenian minister, Nikol Pashinyan,

has signed an agreement of peace with Azerbaijan

during a visit to an international forum in Georgia.

Nikol Pashinyan said,

I quote,

We currently work with Azerbaijan on a peace and regulation project of our relations.

In fact, the two countries have been in conflict for decades

on the subject of the Okaraba,

a zone located in Azerbaijan but populated by Armenians.

In September, Azerbaijan led a clear offensive in the Okaraba,

which forced almost the whole population to flee to Armenia,

more than 100,000 inhabitants.

We prepare you a video on the subject, stay connected.

Third act, scientists have discovered a huge landscape

hidden for millions of years by the ice of Antarctica,

according to a study published this Tuesday in the Nature Communications review.

In particular, this landscape of 32,000 square kilometers,

no longer larger than Belgium,

has once again opened forests, hills and probably even animals.

So according to Stuart Jameson,

the principal author of this study,

it is a major discovery because this surface was intact for over 34 million years.

However, climate warming could melt ice in the next decades,

and therefore this landscape may be threatened.

Fourth act, in Japan, the Supreme Court,

therefore the highest judicial authority,

estimated this Wednesday that the fact of forcing trans people to be sterilized

to be able to change sex was contrary to the Constitution,

which is the supreme law of the country.

Trans people do not recognize themselves in the genre

that they were attributed to birth.

And since 2003 in Japan,

a person who wanted to change sex should respect several criteria

such as being celibate, not having a minor child

or prove the absence of reproductive capacity,

which generally requires a sterilization.

So for the moment, it does not change the law in the facts,

but this decision of the Supreme Court should be given to a new law

which will therefore ban this mandatory sterilization.

Last act, the French basketball player Victor Wimbanyama

made his big debut in NBA,

the professional basketball league in the United States.

It is a fairly major act in the world of sports

because Victor Wimbanyama, who is only 19 years old

and who measures the passage of 2.19 meters,

is considered as the future world superstar of basketball.

He was also the first player to be chosen by a team during the draft,

which is a great striker who has taken place every year

to place the new NBA players in different teams.

Note that France is the third most represented nation

in the NBA championship this year,

with 14 players behind the United States and Canada.
