Acast powers the world's best podcast.

Here's a show that we recommend.

Hey, I'm Kim Holderness.

And I'm Ben Holderness.

We host the Holderness Family podcast every Tuesday.

You may know us from the silly videos that we make online.

Or a book about marriage called Everybody Fights.

Or as winners of season 33 of The Amazing Race.

Well, I can't believe that happened. Listen, we do a lot of stuff,

but our podcast is our most favorite thing.

Yeah, because every week we get to sit down face to face,

talk to each other about marriage, family, mental health,

or just anything that we want to know more about.

Sometimes we have expert interviews, sometimes it's just us,

but our goal is to bring some joy and laughter into your life every week.

Our other goal is that maybe you will learn something as well.

Right, so search the Holderness Family podcast

and check out our most recent episodes.

We have one about staying organized with creators of the home edit.

And one about being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult.

We hope you'll join us.

ACAST helps creators launch, grow, and monetize their podcasts everywhere.

I hope you're doing well.

It's the subject of one of the news of the day.

So, 42 American states, led by Democrats and Republicans,

launched this Tuesday in pursuit of justice against META.

Specifically, they claim that META applications,

especially Instagram and Facebook,

exploit, I quote, powerful and unprecedented technologies

to attract and ultimately trap young and teenagers

in order to make profits, so to gain more money.

And according to them, the American group

ensure that these platforms are adapted for teenagers

by neglecting the effects they can have on the most vulnerable.

The different states claim that the functions of Facebook and Instagram

push young people to stay connected,

I quote, in a compulsive and prolonged way.

They also accuse META of collecting data from users

less than 13 years old without their parents' consent,

which is illegal.

And we come back to these methods that allow a form of addiction

on social networks in the moment.

But what you have to understand is that for social networks,

the nerve of the war, in a way,

is to make sure that people spend as much time as possible

on their applications.

Indeed, these social networks, in general,

are based on the poster of advertising,

and the longer you are on an application,

the longer you will see ads.

And so, META will be remunerated.

So, in front of these accusations,

META has declared in a communique

to be, I quote, disappointed,

disappointed that the general prosecutors

chose to attack him in justice

rather than trying to work together

to improve the platforms.

The group has also said, I quote,

to provide adolescents with experiences

in positive and positive ways,

and to have already set up some tools.

The two most well-known tools,

it's, first of all, the functionality

that allows parents to know the past

time on networks by their children.

And then the second functionality,

it's simply these little reminders

that you may have already seen,

especially on TikTok.

On my side, I had the opportunity to see it on TikTok.

These reminders that invite you,

if you have already spent some time on TikTok,

to take a break or to disconnect

to do something else.

But then, are there any studies

that prove that social networks

have indeed a negative impact

on mental health?

Well, in this case, yes,

and you have to know that this action is in justice.

She saw the day after two years of research

on the methods of Instagram and Facebook.

These researches, they started,

in particular, in autumn 2021,

after Frances Hogan,

an ex-employee from Facebook

and made thousands of internal documents

leak from Facebook.

These documents, they would show, for example,

that the group had ignored studies

that pointed out the potentially harmful effects

of Instagram for mental health.

And that's what's going on,

that in this specific case,

well, this 40% of the American state

has been against Meta.

Even if, suddenly, the other social networks

are not at all free.

And typically, in the case of TikTok,

there have been many threats

of interdiction already in the United States.

And we know that this is another application

that is targeted today by politicians.

So, beyond that,

you have to know that several independent studies

had already highlighted the potentially negative effect

that Instagram can produce

on the self-esteem of teenagers.

The two elements that are generally pointed out

by the researchers,

it is first on social networks

this comparison effect

that we can have,

where we necessarily are faced with posts

or content with idealized versions

of each one that we find on the platform.

And then the other criticism that is addressed,

it is the question of addiction.

There too, we have already talked a lot about it

in today's news and in our other formats.

Social networks are accused of creating

an addiction mechanism

through a reward mechanism,

especially through notifications.

This is the first aspect that can make Acro

and the second aspect is the hyper-personalization

of content,

especially on TikTok or on

typically Instagram with the Rills now.

The networks will not only offer you

content that you are subscribed to,

but above all content that

could interest you and this

content proposal can therefore lead to a form

of addiction.

And by the way, in May last, Vivek Murthy,

who is the head doctor of the United States,

so the one who advises the president and the government

on health issues,

had alerted to the subject, I quote,

extremely harmful effects that can

have on social networks.

According to him, social networks play a major role

in the national health crisis

of young people today.

Well, but very quickly,

before moving on to other news,

what risks does the state have?

Well, for the moment, it remains a little

blurry, but the American states who have

launched this action in justice,

ask justice to force the American group

to end up in different practices

and to pay taxes.

It's interesting to see that it makes echo

to reflections, to measures put in place

in other countries.

So in France, it's a little different,

but the deputies voted the obligation

for platforms like Facebook, Insta or

TikTok to verify the age of

users when they sign up,

as well as to obtain the authorization

of parents for less than 15 years.

But it's a measure that remains difficult

to apply from a technical point of view.

We will therefore see what it is.

Before leaving you with Blanche for the news,

in short, I wanted to quickly make a little point,

obviously, on the latest news

in the Middle East, in Israel,

and in Gaza.

First information first,

after spending a few hours in Israel this Tuesday,

Emmanuel Macron met

the president of the Palestinian Authority

Marmoud Abbas in Ramallah in six days of the year.

The six days of the year is therefore

another part of the Palestinian territory.

And the Palestinian Authority,

we were talking about it a few days ago,

is therefore the rival organization in some way

of Hamas, an organization that wants

to represent the Palestinians.

The French president declared that

I quote, nothing would justify

the suffering of civilians in Gaza.

He also represented, I quote,

his condolences to the Palestinian people.

Emmanuel Macron also declared, I quote,

that Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people.

He also announced an exceptional help

from France in favor of Palestine.

Finally, he said that Marmoud Abbas,

the president of the Palestinian Authority,

had in favor, I quote,

very clear proposals to condemn this terrorist attack

of this October,

and to condemn Hamas.

After the six days of the year,

Emmanuel Macron went to Jordan,

where he met the king of Jordan,

Abdullah II on Wednesday,

before going to Cairo in Egypt.

Today, where he exchanged with

the Egyptian president, Abdel Fatal Sisi.

And on Wednesday,

Emmanuel Macron announced the delivery

in Egypt by plane to deliver

medical equipment to Gaza.

In French, he also announced the departure

of a ship from the sea, from Toulon

and in the direction of Gaza,

there too, to bring assistance to the hospitals

of Gaza.

And this, while the balance is

day after day in Gaza,

the situation is extremely critical.

I give you the last details just after.

Second information that we can note,

an ex-hottage of Hamas,

an 85-year-old Israeli,

was released this Monday

with another woman,

and she expressed herself

on her two-week captivity.

She told the journalist who was present

to have crossed the hell,

attached to a motorcycle

and hit with a stick.

And then, once she arrived in Gaza,

she claimed to have been well treated.

I quote by these Hamas' ravers

who are assured that she needs

nothing.

By the way,

she tells that a doctor

came to make them visit

every two to three days

to examine them

or to deliver their medicines.

So the husband of this woman,

83-year-old,

is still held by Hamas

currently with about

220 Israeli and foreign

hostages.

We have quite a few information

about these other hostages.

Obviously, we keep you informed.

Last important information

that we can note,

on Israel and Gaza,

the head of the United Nations,

Antonio Guterres,

caused Israel's anger,

a anger following his statements

in front of the UN Security Council.

Indeed, Antonio Guterres

first condemned,

I quote,

the horrible and unprecedented terrorist acts

of Hamas.

While adding,

they were not out of nowhere,

in reference to the decades

of occupation

of Palestinian territories

by Israel.

Israel demanded this week

the dismissal of the UN leader

and accused him,

I quote,

of being comprehensive

against terrorism

and Hamas' murder.

On the side of the United Nations

Organization,

we defend its position

while the UN,

these last few days,

draws the alarm sound

on the situation in Gaza,

a situation

absolutely catastrophic

and where, always,

according to the UN,

children die

at an alarming rate.

In total,

it's nearly 5,791 Palestinians

who were killed in Gaza,

including 2,360 children,

1,292 women

and 295 elderly people

according to figures

published and communicated

by Hamas.

On the Israeli side,

it's 1,400 people

around who were killed

by Hamas,

including many civilians,

mainly during the attack

of this October.

I leave you with white

clothes,

and I'll be right back.

Thank you Hugo

and hello everyone.

We start with this act,

racism against black people

has increased

within the European Union

according to a European report

published this Wednesday.

Today,

45% of the people

interviewed declare

to have been victims

of racism

during the last 5 years,

between 39% in 2016.

However,

the report explains

that this discrimination

remains invisible

since only 9%

of the victims

of racism are reported.

Among the 13 countries

of the European Union

studied,

particularly concerned,

since 76% of black people

declare to have been victims

of racism in the country,

while only 26%

are in Portugal.

The second act is

another study

that concerns

the anxiety ecosystem.

This time,

8 French on 10

are concerned

against climate change

according to the annual report

from the Social and Environmental

Economic Council

published this Wednesday.

According to the study,

women are more concerned

than men

since 96% of them

are concerned

between 74% of men.

However,

this time,

the age doesn't seem to affect

this anxiety ecosystem,

so the fear

is linked to climate warming.

Another info,

80% of the judges

say that

minimizing their personal

impact

on the environment

is a real concern,

but that the budget

remains a brake.

37% of the French

say that

not having the means

to adopt

a more ecological behavior.

Third act,

hundreds of milk bottles

should have been remembered

in France

after consumer signals

about their bad tastes

and where their bad smells are.

Viva,

Grand Laies,

Silhouettes

and Candia Maxi

are concerned.

So,

Rappel Conso,

which is the site of the government

that warns about dangerous products,

recommends that

no longer use the bottles

to be concerned

and to throw them

or to bring them

to the store

to obtain a refund.

If you want to know

the exact details,

you can find the links

in the description.

Fourth act,

certain maternity

are forced to

try babies

who can receive

preventive treatment

for bronchiolitis

by lack of dose.

Bronchiolitis

is a very frequent

treatment

after a few weeks.

There is a treatment,

the B-fortus,

which prevents

serious diseases.

The thing is

that health authorities

had estimated

that only 30%

of parents

would wish

their children

to follow this treatment,

but following

a strong bronchiolitis

epidemic

last winter,

parents pay more attention

this year

and it would be 60%

to 80%

to want to give it

to their children.

As a result,

the caretaker

is forced

to try babies

who can receive them

during the summer.

According to France Inter,

the Ministry of Health

would be negotiating

with laboratories

to get more doses

if the epidemic

had lasted

for a long time.

We end with this act.

The Tinder meeting

now allows

families

and friends

to recommend

matches.

In fact,

users can now

create a link

via the application

and send it

to their relatives,

even if they do not have

Tinder.

And from there,

the relatives

have 24 hours

to select

and recommend

their profiles

by their relatives

and can decide

to match

these people

or not.

This is the end

of this summary

of today's news.
