Vuonna 2006 Abraham Shakespeare eli vaatimatonta elämää Yhdysvaltojen Floridassa. Hän kulutti aikaansa ystäviensä kanssa ja tehden erilaisia matalasti palkattuja töitä. Abrahamin elämä kuitenkin muuttui, kun hän voitti lotossa jättipotin - Abraham voitti niin suuren summan rahaa, että hänellä oli voiton jälkeen vaikeuksia jatkaa omaa normaalia elämäänsä. Myös perhe ja ystävät huomasivat tämän - siksi kukaan ei aluksi ihmetellyt, kun Abraham katosi. Vasta kun Abrahamin tutut alkoivat saada tekstiviestejä, jotka eivät vaikuttaneet Abrahamin kirjoittamilta, he alkoivat epäilemään että joku oli pielessä.
